Which motto do you try to live by?
For example: Every cloud has a silver lining; What goes around comes around; Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Thank you for all the thoughtful answers, there are some great mottos in there!
My personal motto is to do as you would be done by. It covers all manner of misdeeds and as long as you want to be treated well, you can't really go wrong with it.
I'm putting this to vote because I can't decide which answer is best and I'd like to see where the votes will fall :-)

To be honest, I have loads - But I'll explain the one that is most important to me and my reasons.
"The only thing that is needed for the evil to succeed is for the good to stand by and do nothing".
Some people have motto's which they don't actually understand or are passionate about. I have thought about this one a lot and I've come to the conclusion that out of all of my motto's and sayings - this one has the most relevancy and truth to it! There is evidence!
Imagine what we could achieve if all of the good united and fought against all the injustice in this world?
We could make some life changing alterations to a world full of tragedy and pain. We could add to the positivity of this world...Good would get the better of evil! Evil would be defeated!
We have seen this done before many times, for example the great legend - MARTIN LUTHER KING. He should have been knighted! Anyway - he brought a large audience together and inspired them with his beautiful speeches!
The good came together, and a positive change came into place. One that still stands today. Black people won Independence!
That's why my saying means the world to me!
Thank You!

some great : Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile. Love life and life will love you back. Love people and they will love you back. A good life is a main argument. If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change. Life is like an onion: You peel it off one layer at a time, and sometimes you weep. have a sweeeeeet life my friend ^_^ !!!

i live by two motto's. neither of which I can claim to have written, but I feel they hold a lot of truth;
Parvis Imbutus Tentabis Grandia Tutus
Once you accomplish small things, you may attempt great one's safely.
&
Entia Non Sunt Multiplicanda Praeter Necessitatem
Entities should not be multiplied beyond neccessity
(the simplest solution to any given problem is probably the correct one)
Thank god for A-level Latin. ;-P

My life motto is "Carpe Diem" which means sieze the day. Live each day as if it is your last and the other one that gets a look in is.
Why put off till tomorrow what you can do today.
All sound advice. But I generally live by Carpe Diem.

Life . Freedom . Love
There is nothing greater then these three. Live free, be free to love, love life. They rest in perfect equilibrium.

I think our world would be a better place if everyone lived by the motto
"Do unto others what you would have done unto you"
Nobody would rape, kill, hate etc.
So that would be what I try an live by, my motto :-)
