have rebooted, updated, re-installed and all that yet the sound wont play. What cld be the problem?

You didn't specify your O.S. It could be the wrong driver, the hardware might be manually disabled or there is a hardware addressing conflict.

One of the Microsoft updates for windows XP disables the realtek driver. There is a patch (which works) on the M*******t web site

check bios see if enabled in there.

could be a conflict with another device causing not to start.

you can install and reboot as many x,s as you like if device is diabled in bios it will never work.

when adding new h/ware or driver let it go to windows update and find it that way.

it will tell you in the properties of device why it won,t work IE: conflicts/won,t start,no drivers ETC. (good luck)

Go to ur devices properties then to the driver tab and click on roll back driver

the driver you are installing for ur sound card may not be appropriate.
dont go for latest version install the driver tthat works.
if prob still persists your sound card may b damaged
