If you work in a "shop" then you work for one of the following types of business with the SIC codes listed below:
* 1389 Oil and Gas Field Services, Not Elsewhere Classified
* 1751 Carpentry Work
* 3443 Fabricated Plate Work (Boiler Shops)
* 3915 Jewelers' Findings and Materials, and Lapidary Work
* 3999 Manufacturing Industries, Not Elsewhere Classified
* 5087 Service Establishment Equipment and Supplies

On the other hand, if you work for a store you are in the following SIC Codes.
* 1542 General Contractors-Nonresidential Buildings, Other than Industrial Buildings and Warehouses
* 1751 Carpentry Work
* 1791 Structural Steel Erection
* 2541 Wood Office and Store Fixtures, Partitions, Shelving, and Lockers
* 2542 Office and Store Fixtures, Partitions, Shelving, and Lockers, Except Wood
* 3442 Metal Doors, Sash, Frames, Molding, and Trim Manufacturing
* 3469 Metal Stampings, Not Elsewhere Classified
* 3571 Electronic Computers
* 3579 Office Machines, Not Elsewhere Classified
* 4493 Marinas
* 5021 Furniture
* 5046 Commercial Equipment, Not Elsewhere Classified
* 5932 Used Merchandise Store

It doesn't appear to follow what we are accustomed to in general everyday language.
Hope this helps.
