Ok so i dont have like any major problems like my home and school life are good and everything but sometimes i feel like i need to talk to someone like a therapist. Is that strange? I just feel like i need to talk to someone who isent my family and friends about stuff just to get it off my chest and have some advise from someone i dont know. I am scared to ask my mom if i can go to one. My older sister goes but she has had some depression problems and i feel like she would think that is it weird that i want to go since i dont have problems like that. So my question is is it strange that i want to talk to a therpist and how do i ask my mom?

If you feel the need to talk to someone then you should. It is not strange, we are all human and need to communicate with each other. If you feel there is no one you can talk to in your circle of friends or no older people to ask advice from then seeing a therapist might be k.

You could just ring a help line, they are free and confidential. That way you won't need to ask your mum about it. In australia we have the kids help line. Just google it for where you live.

Well, I think that you need to talk to SOMEONE who is not your friend or family. This does not necessarily mean a therapist. Just someone who doesn't know you personally and whom you can talk to about your problems and just in general. Because then this person wouldn't judge you on past experiences. So maybe the answer lies in an online friend (but be very, VERY careful with those).
But if you think only a therapist can do the trick, then ask your DAD, since you have reservations asking your mom.
I don't think it's weird at all. Best of luck!!

That is pretty disturbing. I've never heard of a therapist like that before. They're probably pretty rare, so hopefully you won't need to worry about checking in advance. I wouldn't hesitate to tell your new therapist about the last one. It's better that they know your reasons for leaving than be forced to guess about them. All in all, good job getting away from that freak! Don't worry; he is by no means what normal therapists are like. :) Good luck on your therapist search!

Well no, it isn't strange, but it might not be a good idea. It's totally normal to want someone to listen to you, the problem is therapists don't just listen, psychiatrists and psychologists have a book called the DSM IV, (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual) with literally hundreds of "diseases" all with no objective test (such as a blood test or x-ray) to determine if they really exist. Basically, what they will do is they will listen to you and judge you and then label you "mentally ill." It's amazingly easy to label people mentally ill with the vague and ill defined criteria in the DSM. Your psychologist may send you to a psychiatrist who will prescribe dangerous mind altering drugs to correct the "chemical imbalance" in your brain -- chemical imbalance has been totally discredited by science and there is no consensus on what a correct chemical balance would even look like. Do yourself a favor and stay away from the psychs. I believe man is a spiritual being, so you may want to talk to your pastor/rabbi/priest/minister. I'm a Scientologist and the spiritual counseling offered at Scientology organizations has helped me in so many areas of my life and one of the central practices in Scientology is a type of spiritual counseling called "auditing" from the latin "audire" or to listen.

It's not strange at all. Sometimes one just needs to do that, but as for your mom just tell her that you are having some issues that you would like to talk to her about in private and then mention during that conversation that you feel you need some help similar to like what your sister is getting because you feel like you need a bit more help with some things like school (just using this as an example).

If you would ever like to talk one on one please feel free to e-mail or IM me privately any time.
