anytime when its dark, I'm scared, I sleep with a small light on. I feel safe if the blanket is completely covering me. but if my leg is out and its dark while sleeping, then I'm affraid that crocodile will eat it (childhood thing). some evening I went out to gather some clovers for my guinea pigs and I had a flashlight, but I was always scared of all dark places and corners around me. if there was a little bit of light from near industrial site, I felt safe, otherwise I was scared. I was scared if I aimed the flash light away from where I was standing.
in the night I cant go from one room to another without a light on. example from kitchen to living room: light is on in the kitchen, then I turn on the light in the corridor, then I turn off in the kitchen, then I turn on in the living room and then I go back to the corridor to turn the light off.
and I'm 19 years old male.

yesterday I was watching a documentary about hypnosis and people are scared of things cause scary thins are on their minds too much. when my mind is focused on something else like food, or to go to the bathroom, I can go walk in the dark without my light turning on and off marathon. otherwise I'm thinking of demons and ghosts. our cat scared me twice. I saw a HUGE shadow coming towards me, I freaked out but it was just our cat wanting to be caressed. next time I heard some noises, but then it was my cat. she was hungry.

if there is nothing there in the light then there is nothing there in the dark....your fear is that there may be something there to get you and you can't see it but just tell your self that there is nothing there....scary things don't just appear out of no where to get you just because the light is off. this is what i tell my kids and it usually works

I feel exactly like you do. I am 23 and terrified of the dark. One thing that has helped me other fears I have or have had (theres alot), is I have a journal. I found a list of fears online and all there names. Then in my journal I will write the what I'm afraid of and then what it is called. I will then write what scares me and why I think it could be scaring me. I will write until I feel like it is finished. Then I go back and read what I have written. It gives me alot better understanding of the fear. I haven't done this in a long time and not with the dark yet. I guess I should get back on that, I've just been so busy with school and work and sleep. I work nights and sleep durring the day and I think that is partly because of the fear of the dark.
Good luck....

dont worry about it too much and Beside there are so many adults like you are scared of the dark take me for example iam 18 yrs old girl but sometimes at night i get up to go somewhere in the house and i hear a sound then this sound makes me so scared that i forget what i was going to do outside my bedroom, but iam not as scared as you are. at first when i was reading ur question i thought that you are only 10 years old but then i saw ur age and i was surprised so i went to the Internet and i found out that some adults are scared of the dark too just like children.
If i was you, i would try to con fort myself by not watching scary movies at night and i would try to sleep one night a week with the light on and keep this im mind until you are more confident with sleeping with the light off at night and remember when you sleep, dont think about anything scary, think about something nice, something that makes you happy for example if you met a nice girl think about what did she tell you and what did you tell her in return and that way you will feel relaxed and you will notice that you slept without even thinking about anything scary. Try this routine, and see if it work for you.

I've gone thru stages when I was alone of starting to panic when I would see it getting dark. I would put all the lights on in the house and fall asleep on the couch. But night lights are great as it gives just enuf light. So I would sleep in the day and stay up at night in fright. My doctor gave me pills for anxiety. Maybe you should discuss it with your doctor. bettyk

It sounds like you are frightened of the dark and dark places. You are not the only person with the fear, many adults are frightened of the dark too.

Firstly you need to find out why you are afraid of the dark!
There must be a reason behind it, something that is causing your fear.
You should consult a psycologist, they might be able to help you.
