There are some very good answers.
However, I shall add what I believe to be the motto of life.
First, your motto should be to see that whatever potential you have, bring it to the full. In so doing, be compassionate towards others and see that your actions don't hurt others.
Thus, the motto should be to live a life and seek the light of knowledge and give love to whoever comes across.

Depending on your surroundings and your likings you should choose your motto. Everybody has a motto or more precisely an ambition in life.

Find one for yourself in the following if you can;
1. Do something for humanity.
2. Do something for the environment you live in.
3. Do for the poor trodden.
4. help remove illetracy.
5. Join any NGO and help them if you can.

Don't expect the unexpected, BE the unexpected.
Reach for the stars because even if you fall you'll still land amongst the clouds!

Live life Like there is no tomorrow: Because you never know when one day it could all be gone in a blink of an eye. My friend went to a party and got drunk, he drove home of course and on his way to see his pregnant wife and two children and crashed and died. So you never know when it will be your last moment in time so live your life and don't let anyone stop you!
You have a path, a journey meant only for you. Even when you don't think your on it, you are. Dream it. Feel it. Love it. Hate it. Live it like you were born to do.......
dont measure life by the breaths u take but by the moments that take ur breath away...

remember the golden rule :
If you could kick the butt of the person responsible for most of your problems, you would have a sore butt.
Better to be pissed off than pissed on!

Live fast, die young... leave a mangled / burnt / blown up corpse from your spectacularly memorable death.
Don't live to die, instead die to live.
Meaning, don't focus on the possible negitive consequences of your decisions, just make them. LIVE your life, and whatever problems you face, take them as they come.
Do not regret the things you've done, but those you did not do.

Good question!

I prefer the variable-motto-approach. Switch your motto's in a pragmatic way to suit your lifestyle!

- If you are being naughty, use 'it is better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission'

- If you are ill 'every inconvenience is temporary' will help

- If you failed to achieve your goal 'it's not about the destination, it is about the journey'

etc.

So don't leave the house with a bunch of MottoS in the trunk :)

Your life , your motto... your prerogative and your decision. leave the others to their decision . My motto in life is to be of some help to others if I can . Broad one at that but I can weave it around my workplace , my home and my surrounding.
