Does anyone know what illness causes red lines in the fins, almost like veins? See my question about red lines for more details-- but I dont want these guys to die! I dont recall seeing these before I moved them to a new tank so I want to make sure I am treating this right. One had obvious red on the tail fins, almost like it was bleeding, so it's not just veins showing. thanks for any tips!!!

Snoopy: Settle down. I asked this a different way since I saw experts answering online and no one saw the red finned question -- I thought it sounded like a different topic than sick fish. And my water is not dirty, I test it daily. It was cycling, but I have been keeping it clean -- you know how that balancing act goes. I don't have it full to the 50 gallons, it is more like at 40 gallons and I put in nearly 28 gallons of good water they were already living in for several months, so I thougth they'd be OK. Another more experienced person answered that it may not be the infection after all, but I am going to keep an eye out for both options since I am already almost done treating for infection.

I've set the first to septicemia, but you can look through the rest of the link (nice one to bookmark for future reference). See both septicemia and ammonia poisoning in the second.

try an antibiotic tablet from the pet shop you will only need 1. you could also try multi cure or promethyasul made by wardly it contains mafenide hydrocchoride, aminacrine hydrocloride and mialachite green. try common cooking salt, but you have to increase the air flow in the tank, after three days of medication, change 1/3 off the water and start the same routine over, make sure you remove the carbon out of your filter otherwise the medication will not work, keep the air high in the tank even if you have to buy another air motor. I hope this helps. i do not know what country you are in that may make a difference to the names of the medication but here in Australia that the name

You already asked this question, and were answered. You fish has Septicemia. This can be caused by dirty water as well, and the stress from your recent tank move may have contributed. Maintain pristine water quality and finish the treatments, and it should be fine.

It sounds like bacterial septicemia to me; especially if your fish are goldfish. You should call a vet or go to a pet store and buy medication to treat that.
