Guess what????
I hate them. I don't like staying with people, hate travelling with them and don't feel comfortable in hotels. If I want to see the sea, I can be there in fifteen minutes. Ten minute bus ride to Ryhope, five minute walk to the cliff top.
To get to the 'resort' (Roker or Seaburn), make it half an hour. Ten minute bus ride to the town, five minutes to wait for the E1 (or one of the other buses that goes over the water). Five minutes to the sea front, five minutes to walk to the prom, five minutes to get warm and settled on a bench with fish and chips.
If I want to go to the countryside, it's a ten minute taxi ride away..
If I want culture, I'll spend the day in Durham or York.
Shopping trip - Bus from my doorstep (practically) straight to the Metrocentre.
There is never a valid reason to leave the North East no matter how my sister (lives in Kent) moans at me to visit. I went down only three years ago.

Wow - you have a great imagination - not! Poor sister, you might regret not visiting her one day. There's a whole beautiful world out there, and you're only interested in what's on your doorstep? Sad.

of course I go on holiday. sun sand and different cultures. Ryhope-nothing there no fish and chips on beach. Seaburn not a lot nowadays, and as for Roker a long walk to beach.no I live in a village near Seaham and I`d rather go abroad where I can sit in sunshine be waited on and swim etc in summer.NE water now freezing no tables out side.as for country I have plenty near me, but no comparison to abroad.

The area you live in is very nice, but there is so much more out there!
Travel does more than just introduce you to other areas, it really does broaden the mind. You meet people you would never come across by staying put.
Kent is also lovely, but there are the lakes, the peaks, the moors, the cornish and devon coastline. Thats before you get your passport out and venture across the channel!

personally I LOVE holidays - and am currently counting down the days to the 30th July when I head for Spain!
i love the whole buzz of a new country - the sun the sea and the whole holiday atmosphere!
however I can also understand why some people such as yourself would favour not to do the whole holidays scene!
I think its up to individual preferences and whatever works for you is perfectly acceptable!
xx

I live in Kent and I'd stay well away from the North East!
But then again, I have no interest in Whippets, Flat Caps or Pigeons!

I love going abroad, there's nothing like it for expanding your horizons and seeing how other people live.
A few months back I ewas in the Cape Verde islands.
I'm off to Morocco next week and to South Africa and Mauritius next year.
Go before you get too old to enjoy and appreciate them.

I like holidays, though I'm prepared to see your reasons what's not to like. Me, I do dislike having my room tidied each day in hotels- I'ld rather not have someone in my room. That's no excuse for not visiting friends and family though- why should they always be the one to travel. But some effort in to your relatioships and go see them soon!!

Hmm I tend to agree, I hate the chaos at airports, the lugging around of huge suitcases (I do take 20 pairs of shoes for two weeks but hey ho), I hate the fact the accomodation is never as expected, I absolutely hate packing and coming home on a nightflight at 4am and then not being able to find a cab at the airport at home, god its all so much hassle!!
