The way forward for the UK starts with sorting out the mess that we call society. By encouraging people to be single parents, and to only work 16 hours a week so they can have a council flat, the government has made it easier to rely on the state instead of people working for what they get.

I would only allow those with no job to have benefits for 3 months, by which time they must have a job, and must work at least 25 hours a week, otherwise they loose their benefits and house.
Parents on benefits will not be encouraged to have large numbers of children (which they do now to get more money). Instead, for their first child they will get full benefits, but less money each time for every other child (if you can't afford them, don't have them). And some children whose parent's can't support them without benefits would be taken into care.
People have to live with their parents until they are 18, instead of 16, also.
Scrap the ASBOs, and give people community sentances, but harsher ones, like cleaning the streets, and so on. People who always re-offend at a young age should be sent into the army, to give them disipline, and a sense of purpose.

New prisons should be built, to house criminals. At first the old prison ships would be brought back into use while they are being built. I would then make it illigal for people to not serve their full sentance (good behaviour or not). Also, life would mean life, and not just 20 years.

As for the NHS, I would fire all the pen-pushing administrators, and hire ex-doctors to run the hospitals, as they actually know what the hospital needs, having worked in one all their life. I would also ensure, through legislations or whatever, that all hospitals were cleaned three times a day at least, with the strongest chemicals needed to kill the bugs.

Instead of appointed Lords, I would introduce a partially elected second house. I would also take away the right of the first house to bypass the Lords, if they do not pass a law (like with the hunting ban).

I would hike up the taxes on petrol and electricity bills, to encourage people to use more efficient appliances. Most of the money from these taxes would go on conservation projects, or on building hydro-electric power plants, or whind farms.

I would give every adult the right to vote on this EU treaty, and also the right to vote on whether we stay as part of the EU (which i would strongly encourage we do, as they do keep our farmers afloat).

I would stop using money from the rest of the UK to fund free prescriptions/university fees in Scotland, and would instead let them use their money, while money from all the UK countries would be spent on schemes that apply to all of the UK, not just one country.

I would also give everyone 16 or over the vote - they have a fresh take on politics, and are also adults, many of whom have to pay tax, and so should be entitled to their own political opinions and entitled to choose who runs their country.

I would also put more tax on these city bonuses. Any bonus that exceeds £100 000 would have to pay 50% tax. This money would be used to build new housing, and to provide more services, such as care homes for the elderly/severely ill.

I would put a quota on the number of immigrants. So there would be so many from the EU, so many from the commonwealth, and so many from the rest of the world, per year. At the moment we have plenty of people who live here and are not immigrants, and yet they are not working, and instead claiming money that could be better spent elsewhere.

Lastly, I would makesure that every student can only leave school at 16 IF they have 5 decent GCSE's (A* to C grade), and at least a C in Science, Maths, and English. Those who leave school, and do not go into further education, and do not get a job within a year will be automatically given a job by the local council (which could be anything from joining a building firm as an apprentice, to being a garbage collector).

Stop immigration completely. Boot out illegal immigrants instead of letting them stay, duh.

Put tax mostly on cigarettes & alcohol, as well as vehicle tax, reduce it for the rest.
Smoking surely is adding to global warming too, it is hugely polluting the environment, all the cadmium & other bad things in the smoke, imagine how much smoke is going into the air from smoking right now.

Build hydro & wind power generators.

Create mercury & electrical waste recycling boxes to send the new tube lights & electrical devices to when they are used, have clear warning labels about breaking the mercury tube lights, & have fines for not disposing of correctly, somehow. Otherwise these new bulbs will be very damaging to human health & the environment, which is the opposite of why they are being introduced. Electrical waste contains many toxic substances such as pcb's & heavy metals, which damage the environment & get into the water supply causing increases in disease & weakening peoples' immune systems.

Make it easier to buy organic food somehow, there isn't much & so it's hard to find fresh organic vegetables even from Waitrose & Sainsbury's.

Have population control, otherwise the already low oxygen supply will decrease even further, making health problems even more common, act NOW before it's too late! Although I suppose big pharma will profit from increased disease. Population increase also causes more pollution.

Money should be better spent in local areas, people that are capable should be encouraged to do more. When I was out of work I would have happily cut the grass on the sides of a road or planted trees, that could have freed the council to sort out the empty houses on our estates, instead they are still boarded up

Cut the road tax - it isn't fair rich people pay the same as poor. We already pay the highest petrol tax in Europe - petrol duty is fairer because it taxes car use. Cut duty for green fuels.

Introduce a top rate of income tax - it is the fairest way of taxing people - for people who earn more than a million a year,

I like the idea of liberal democrats in cabinet, maybe even a wet Tory. Inclusivity is the key.

Encourage savings, make pensions attractive and make them opt out- rather than opt in.

Raise alcohol duty - especially on lager and alcopops. maybe freeze it on whiskey and real ale.

Pull out of Iraq within 12 months.

I think people unemployed could do more for their areas, not anything army style, but if they were taken to places where things needed doing then they probably would enjoy doing it, surely this could also free up council workers to do other much needed jobs in our areas.
