if i wanted to run a restaurant out of my own house, what do i need legal wise? What permits etc.

If you live in the US, then the answer is probably not. Homes are zoned as residential and only areas zoned as residential/ light commercial can have abusiness like a restaurant set up. Besides this, you woul need to have a food worker's permit, a building inspection, and a license to operate a business. If you sell alcohol(beer, wine or wine coolers included) then you'll need an on premise license.

You probably wouldn't be able to do this in most States. I rather doubt it after thinking about it, it just wouldn't work. You can check with the local zoning community at the courthouse but, don't count on it.
