My mom had some kid work on her car and I dont think he put the spark plugs on right. I dont know much about cars but I see that one of the spark plugs appears to be loose. We dont really know anybody who works on cars so should we just bring it into a shop?

Thank you all for your input. I was just wanting to get a better idea of what the problem was because I dont want to bring it to a shop and get ripped off. I was actually contemplating just pushing the damn thing in to see if it would just stay put. But then again the most "work" I have put into a car is putting the windsheild wiper fluid in it! lol. Okay I will bring it to a shop to be safe.

Tell that kid to tighten the spark plugs in the block. If you can see a sparkplug, or see it moving, then he didnt tighten it, and he didnt put the spark plug wire on.
Messing up the wires can screw your firing order and your car wont run or wont run right.
I would take it to a shop, also take a auto shop class in school. its well worth it to learn the basics of doing car work, could save you thousands in the long run.

I'm not convinced that he cross-threaded a plug -- it wouldn't be "loose", it'd be tight. Stripping is even less likely, unless you're engine has aluminum heads and the kid is a bodybuilder who doesn't know his own strength.
Is it just the wire that loose, or is the the plug? If it's just the wire, try pushing it on firmly, or pull it off and check the top of the plug - some have a threaded terminal that the plug wire is designed to slip over, some have a thicker ~1/4 inch fixed tip, and some have a threaded 1/4 inch adapter ferrule, which could be the part that's loose.
However, if the plug itself is loose, why not mention it to the kid and have him check it and/or tighten the loose plug. If he wants to become a mechanic, he should value the feedback and besides, he'll need to become accustomed to fixing his screwups and learn to do it right the first time.

I would think that if you noticed the loose spark plug, you probably have the ability to fix it. I'm not sure what a shop might charge your mom for doing the repair but this might be an opportunity for you to get a bit of hands-on experience. My thought would be to check the plug for stripped threads by removing it and checking the threads on the plug for damage or metal shavings. A basic mechanic's tool set should have the socket for the plug included but you may want to ask the parts counter person for help. I would also see about purchasing an owner's manual for the car in case of future questions or repairs. Good Luck.

It could be the person didn't get the plug started in right, and striped the threads? I would take it to a shop and let them check it out, most of the time, they can "fix" a striped spark plug.

You did no longer say which end is melting. If the top of plug the place you hook the plug twine is melting then you certainly have become arcing there and could replace the plug twine. If the top that is going into the motor is melting, you will desire to to get it to a mechanic and spot waht's happening until eventually now you wreck the engine. good success.

If the plug is loose, get it tightened before it messes up the threads on the plug hole, or the plug falls out and the burning fuel may cause a fire in the car. good luck.

Just do it yourself. For example, if your car is a V4, there should be 4 spark plugs. You should see a really long spark plug wire, plug that into the last spark plug hole. Then there should be a shorter one, plug that into the 3rd, and so on...i think.
The link below you should help.
