Asking seems to be the logical choice?
But if nobody answers the question then there really wouldn't be a point in asking it? (Except self-contemplation, but then you'd most likely want to share your answer!)
The are one in the same aren't they?
I think your asking what is more important the yin or the yang?
One without the other wouldn't be all it could be.

Sometimes I feel it's just conversational. Sometimes I just read the questions and their responses to see how people think and what they think about. I often learn some things I didn't know before. I often feel compelled to answer questions when I don't see a similar answer already posted. If my thoughts are already posted by someone else, I give them a thumbs-up. I read a lot. I have always felt that we shouldn't stop learning just because we are finished with our formal education, so I am constantly seeking to know and understand. I think this site is primarily a place for sharing what we know.

People who ask are perplexed and need some kind of help. People who answer just want to help in some small way. As for caring for knowledge, everybody wants to know more about life. If we knew it all, we'd be God, now wouldn't we?

They may care more through knowledge and sharing knowledge as they have greater access to do that than for or to other kinds of action.

Admittedly I'm mostly here for entertainment, to break the monotony of a long shift at work...
Sometimes though, if it's a subject I'm passionate about then I do want to share my thoughts & experience (I'm not going to say my "knowledge" -- hey what do I know? The more I know the more I realize I don't know anyway) on the subject and it is rewarding to feel like I've helped someone, to hear that they appreciated my answer.

I think most of the people who _ask_ questions care about knowledge. Those who _answer_ questions are about evenly divided between people wanting to share their wisdom, and people just wanting to spout off at the mouth.

I'd say askers usually want the knowledge of the answer, and answerers usually are just bored people who like to think.

I'm sure most are looking for knowledge, but it is experience that teaches us what we thought we already knew.

that and the sharing of viewpoints. Philosophy was one of my majors. Unfortunately, the job market winds up to govt work, think tanks, and projections on a wide variety of disciplines

No, not always. Sometimes it's a way of amusing yourself, other times it is for help in a tricky situation, - various reasons.
