Believers do good things as they are scared of judgement day and think they will get a great afterlife (ahem). This means that believers are only good natured because they feel it is in their own interests. I find this very selfish, they even admit that 'they are accountable' to god and atheists are not, proving their moral motives. What do you think?

Not all religious people do good because of fear. Many do it because they love their God as well as thinking it is the right thing to do. I am religious and amnot at all afraid of judgement, I do what the Bible says because God is the most intelligent being ever and created us, therefore he knows how we should behave. There are things that many non-religious people would not mind at all like sexual immorality and lying which 'technically' doesn't hurt anyone which we still do not do.

Our good works will not take us to heaven where we shall spend eternity with God. The word of God says: believe in the Lord and thou shall be saved. Let your faith and believe
be your best bet and not your good works.

I think it works both ways. There are religious people who do good things because god told them to. But there are also people who do good things because... they're good to do. I'm a muslim, but I don't do the good things that I do because I fear god (I actually think of him very little, I'm a horrible muslim), I do them because they're the right thing to do.
