OK This really depends on your age - but here's what I wrote:

There was a similar question about a week ago - here's what I wrote then, based on my 2 visits to the Phoenix area.

If they're interested in architecture 'Taliesin' in Scottsdale is great. Cost a small fortune by cab from my motel in Mesa but it was worth it.

I was disappointed 'Rawhide' was closed/ghost town when I last visited in 2006. In 2005 it was getting moved from Scottsdale. Hope there's something similar now.

Yes old Scottsdale is fun, Mill in Tempe and Tempe town lake is really lovely, nice areas to picnic, kayaking etc.

A 'Flea-market' near Mesa was great too - but that may only be around when the 'snowbirds' are over winter.

Do not, DO NOT ... can I say that loudly enough, miss the Desert Botanical Gardens. Visit in the daytime and check their website to see if there are any evening concerts - absolutely magic. I heard/saw the Sarhnas Brothers there in November 2006. Phoenix Zoo is cool to - especially near Christmas when they have a 'light show'.

Cave Creek, near Phoenix was a fun place to visit. Had some great enchiladas at Crazy Ed's - Satisfied Toad restaurant there. They sell beer with Chili Peppers in the bottle! A sure sign you're south lol

Fountain Hills Park is great too - wonderful grassy areas for picnics, Frisbee golf and the fountain, can reach up to 500ft.

The people are friendly and helpful. I'll never forget wearing a Steelers Tshirt and a lady at Superstition Mall, relocated from PA, asked me where I lived. She couldn't believe there was a Steelers fan from New Zealand, let alone a Steelers fan from NZ being in AZ. We chatted a while, but people behind me didn't seem upset and joined in the conversation. Just lovely ... smiles

I'm really glad I have visited Phoenix/Sonora Desert. The desert is so different from NZ landscape.

Wow - nearly forgot - the Grand Canyon, especially with that new walkway out over the canyon ... or is that on the north rim? Anyway if you've done Sedona you've probably visited Flagstaff and the Canyon as well.

Also Tombstone - I always thought it was just a movie, not a reality.

I also live in Phoenix, and although it is very hot this time of year...expect highs around 110 or more, there are a number of things to do. If you get up early (around sunrise) you can hike, Camelback Mountain is fun, just get down before 10:30 or so and bring plenty of water. If you enjoy golf the summer rates at the golf courses are low. If you are opposed to the heat as suggested by others then I suggest seeking out the water. Head over to the Salt River with a cooler of liquid refreshment and get a couple tubes...one for your and one for your cooler!!! A rope helps to keep you connected. Oh and don't forget your sunscreen!!! We also have casinos, great restaurants, nightclubs, professional sports teams and more. Plenty to do year around!!!

If you by (frequently or infrequently) diverse gardening and landscaping magazines why don’t you just purchase a comprehensive one from here https://tr.im/Cisah a actually great resource with a lots of information and good quality guides , without a doubt it’s wonderful value.
Ideas4Landscaping contain comprehensive diagrams and effortless to comply with instructions if you don’t know exactly where to commence , a system that is also coming with various themes and bonus resources like the “Landscaping Secrets Revealed guide , Save On Energy Costs – Green Home manual or How To Grow Organic Vegetables - without a doubt a full plan for the ones that want to understand landscaping or just to make the backyard or front yard far more exciting.

do not come in the summer. it is too hot. contact the visitors bureau's for more information:

There is a lot of dining, golfing, shopping, (it is a large metro area, so all major sporting events are represented)
Also, there are all major types of opera, museums, old town scottsdale/phoenix areas. There are trips out to the desert. There are short day trips to all kinds of things like mining towns, haunted places, sedona, flagstaff, Tuscon, rocky point,mx (closest beach about a 5 hour drive), grand canyon is an overnight trip-long drive).
I will say this again; do not come in the summer. It is too hot. It is about 110 this week. It goes on and on and on.
Anyway, lots to do for sure. Oh, we have Indian Casino gambling in town as well. We have almost anything you can imagine-except for a beach, kind people, and safe drivers. Be extra cautious when driving here as people drive VERY fast and aggressive. Do not flip people off as they will pull a gun out-which by the way, as long as it is on the seat in plain view is legal to own, by anyone. Have fun!

Well, - I HOPE you're not coming any time within the next 3 months... -Because I LIVE here, & I hybernate all Summer- cuz it's just TOO HOT to go anywhere. From now until the end of September- it's usually between 105 & 110 every day ( a "hot" day is 115; a REALLY hot day is- you DON'T want to KNOW !!!). Now if we REALLY are desperate to "get out of the house"- we go to any one of our 7 or 8 Malls... -& there are LOTS of places to go to the Movies... But if you're NOT into those kind of activities- convince your others to go somewhere else! :0

there are plenty of things to do here (even in summer) you just have to do outdoor activites either in the morning (before 11a) or evening (after 8p)

i've lived here for 15+ years now (was born here but moved alot-military father) and i love it.

here are some ideas for you

-az science center. this is an awesome place to see-right now they are having the C.S.I insect exhibit but they have over 300 hands-on exhibits on display if you aren't big on bugs. check it out-it's inside with ice cold a/c

http://www.azscience.org/index.php

-heard museum. this is an arts museum and neat if you're into that kind of stuff

http://www.heard.org/NETCOMMUNITY/Page.aspx?&pid=204&srcid=204

-polar ice. this is an indoor ice skating rink (they have one in Peoria as well which is on the west side of town-check to see which is closer to you). this is a great way to cool off w/the hot weather outside!!

there are several lakes in az. the closest one to phx are canyon lake and saguaro lake. here are the links for both

http://www.canyonlakemarina.com/
http://www.saguarolakemarina.com/

-tubing down the salt river. this is a must for anyone who visits phx. it's a blast.

if you want to drive a little bit-there are a few fun things to do in the payson/oak creek canyon area. it's about 2 hours north of phoenix (an easy drive on the highway) and the weather tends to be about 10-15 degrees cooler. here are the links

-slide rock. an nature made rock slide that drops you into oak creek. it's a fun way to cool off and the scenery is awesome.

-tonto natural bridge (been here several times). a nature made bridge you can hike through w/a waterfall. so pretty!!

http://www.pr.state.az.us/Parks/parkhtml/tonto.html

-west fork trail of oak creek #108. this trail is easy to walk and so beautiful. you walk right along the creek-there is lush green grass and a few waterfalls. it's awesome and one of my fav places.
