and i'm thinking of what may be a high number... 10%.

here's my reasoning:
- salary.com says i should be making that much.
- my reviews have been very good
- i love my job and show it by working hard
- my boss seems to like me
- i spent the last year managing a project which i inadvertently took over through really hard work and the fact that i fixed some major problems that i discovered when i first came on....
- i am now one of the main consultants on a new software we're using because i've been able to pick it up very quickly

so i am thinking i deserve it. is this going to reflect badly on me? or should i just go for it and hope that it'll at least get me something close?

Think it out first. What will you do if no is the answer? Has it been a year? Will this effect your relationship with your boss?

I don't have the answer but I don't trust salary.com.
Good luck to you and don't let me stop you. Just think about it first.

Be very careful. If they say no you may be forced into a situation that you may not want to go towards, mainly pay me or I leave. How long since your last raise, how long have you been there. What is the normal review process and promotion process. Have they been fair during these reviews? If not, why do you think that has been the case. Managers do not like to be put on the spot about salary and they can take it personally and hold a grudge.

On the other side, if you are an invaluable as you say, then you have cards to play. Mainly you are an asset to the firm who should be paid more.

Others have asked similar questions over the last year and
their answer was, You are a very hard worker and an asset to
the company, but giving you a raise would be cutting into the
corporate profits and be taking a loss. I think you deserve to
ask, and you will never know unless you ask. You go Girl. :-})
