Billups opted out of the final year of his contrat that does not mean he is no longer a Pistons. This is a stunt to get more money from the Pistons, and it well work. Also the Pistons are not anywhere a dynasty. As for it being over for Detroit, not yet they are one of the three best teams in the east, with are without Billups. hey will be fine. Atleast untill Prince wants to leave.

Dear Maribel R,
Billups opting out seems to just be a financial move so that he can get top dollar. The Pistons can retain his services if they choose to match whatever top offer he gets.
However, i would also say with the loss of Ben Wallace from last season and both Webber and Rasheed a year older, they need to acquire some front-court help. i think the Wallace trade hurt them more than they thought as evidenced in the Cleveland series.
If they can retain the services of Billups they may have a run left in them. After all it is the Eastern Conference and with Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant seemingly staying in the West and with the two top picks in the West- the East really hasn't gotten significantly better (yet? Off course we're still pending off season moves) but right now it seems like the West got stronger, and the East is still much weaker.
So i think if the Pistons retain Billups (which Billups seems open to- he just wants a big pay raise)... they can very much have a run or two left in them.

Piston dynasty?????????????? You have got to be kidding me. Pistons would be lucky to be a .500 team in the west. So lets clear up this dynasty stuff. The San Antonio Spurs are getting close to being a dynasty and the Pistons can not tie their she laces. Now as for Billups; he is a average point guard that is no way in the same league with Tony Parker and Steve Nash. He could not win a starting position on any Western Division team that I can think of. I think he would be valuable coming off the bench as a 6th man, if his ego will allow him to play that role. Now the pistons are in a downward spiral and will need some large infusions of talent to get the back on track. Prince is about all you have because Hamilton is to erratic and Rasheed Wallace is a disgrace to basketball. I just do not see Joe Dumars being to pull a rabbit out of the hat in the next five years. Billups gone from Detroit, I say good riddance and take Wallace with you to either Turkey, Phillipines or to KCC in the KOrean league.

A dynasty?? Making it to the eastern conference finals each season doesn't qualify you as a dynasty, even if you did it 10 years in a row. A dynasty is when you string together several championships (like 3 or more) over a relatively short period of time. The Pistons won a title with this group, but can't be considered a dynasty.
The San Antonio Spurs are a dynasty.
Cleveland is the new beast of the east.

contrary to locincam, i think if chauncy leaves, the pistons will take a big blow. they will still make the playoffs, but teams wont be as scared anymore. since webber is old and is weak, sheed is declining but still good and all that is left is prince and rip. all rip can do is shoot and prince is pretty well rounded but doesnt do any one thing very well on offense. and i dont think the pistons ever were a dynasty. you cant be a dynasty and only win 1 championship. sure you made the ECF 5 straight years, but that is because the east sucks @ss, if detroit was in the west, they would get knocked out in the first 2 rounds.

Chanucy is an unrestricted free agent. That means he can still go back to the Pistons if they make him the best offer. If they dont get him back and they dont sign or trade for an another good PG there is an good chance the dynasty will crumble and will not be the kings of the East.

You got it wrong. He's an unrestricted free agent. Meaning if know one offers the same amount of money or more then he can go back to Detroit. He may have to take a pay cut and play for another contender. You have teams like Memphis and Milwaukee who need point guards and have cap room but they might not match what Detroit will pay Billups next year (6.8 million). I hope he stays with Detroit.

billups will stay, but if he does leave a shift will take place and give the crown to the bulls or the cavaliers, by the way the pistons should have won in the post season this year because they had players that were injured and ejected unfairly

First of all the Pistons weren't even a dynasty. Spurs are a dynasty in the making with only need to win one next to solidify their place in NBA History. Second oh damn! you're right! He's gone sorry I guess the Cavs are now the beast of the weak *** east!

I don't think it really matters anymore. Even if they could somehow keep Billups and their entire team intact, they still wouldn't be able to stop the one-man LeBron James army. They're better off going in a new direction and trying to figure out a new strategy. Maybe if they could somehow bring Larry Brown back then everything may eventually start clicking again but that's high unlikely as Mr. Brown seems pretty content on staying with Philli.
