For me ... its necessary ... Its the way I was raised. My parents have been together for 40 years. Yes there have been hard times between them, but they worked thru them. I only wish my first marriage didn't end, but he was dedicated to porn and his friends, NOT me or his family!
My new husband, loves me, I love him, he's my best friend, yes I know you can have a best friend with out being married ... Besides if he wants to divorce ... he'll have to chew off his arm! LOL JUST KIDDING!

It is not necessary but everyone should try marriage at least once. Some couples actually stay in love for many many years. Marriage is good with kids but not necessary.
At my old age, I want a friend and a lover and separate residences.

It's not nessesary, or old fashioned for that matter. You don't have to get married in life, me and mine don't believe in marriage because we're not religious.
The old fashioned part is believing that if you get married you'll be happy, and if you don't you'll never be happy. Some people are happy married, but I'm completely satisfied living how I am. It's also a problem when people think they have to get married, marry someone totally wrong for them, and don't believe in divorce, therefor leading a miserable life.
Some say it's sin, but marriage just isn't for me. I think it depends who you are.
KIWI-- we're not married, but we never cheat and have just as strong a bond as married couples, but without that "trapped" feeling. It doesn't matter that we never said vows, I guarantee that our relationship is stronger than most married couples'. I'm sorry for people that feel they "have" to say vows or their relationships mean nothing. That's so shallow, and people that "have" to have those vows must not trust themselves or their partners.

Of course it's not necessary. People shouldn't feel compulsed/pressured to get married, especially by their family (the most common 'culprit').

Getting married is *stupid* for a plethora of reasons. I am totally against it. Anytime one legally binds themselves to another human being, you're asking for trouble. People lie, they cheat, they dirty-deal...Lust can dig a hole that can bury you eventually. I don't recommend it whatsoever.

necessary. It's needing to keep those vows that makes living together possible when times are tough.
