The best way to help her is to educate yourself about her condition. Most fibroid tumors are NOT cancerous so that should be of some relief to her. Also, there is now bio identical HRT (hormone replacement therapy) which means doctors can match up her exact hormonal needs after surgery and they are made from naturally derived hormones and not the synthetic type once used. Medicine today is wonderful and after her surgery she should pretty much go back to her normal routine. There is a lot of info on the www. Just google fibroid tumor treatments and you will learn a lot. She is lucky to have a sister who cares.

Its better to remove the uterus then having it with many problems. Fibroids will cause heavy bleeding and pain. Eventually she will have anemia. Its better to remove the uterus otherwise she may need to suffer for a long time. She has nothing to worry as she has 2 children. If doctor remove only the uterus and keep the ovaries she will have no hormonal problem and lead a normal life.
My mom had hysterectomy when she was 40. She is 43 now, she is very fine now.
I have uterine fibroids and I'm pregnant as well. I'm 26 now. I may have to take hysterectomy when doctor will have the surgery to give birth of the baby. Its my first baby. So tell your sister not to worry. Its a common surgery and she will be fine.

My mom had her hysterectomy when she was 40 years old. She was only in the hospital for four days. She was in that long only because she had to opened up. She did have some pain but only when she moved a lot. The medicine they gave her in the hospital and to take home worked pretty well. One of my friend's mother had it done a few months ago and she went home the same day. She had the less invasive version done. She said she feels fine and was glad she had it done.

You all are going to have to just do your research and decide what's going to be best for you all.
