I can't afford a new laptop, so i hv decided to buy a 2nd hand laptop. Let me know please what things should I check before to buy it. I need it for saving photoes, pictures, mailing and internet sirfing. Give me some good tips.

check the years it was used or how frequently it was used. check the HD if it gives out a sound when you turn-it on. if the HD gives noise, dont buy it.

but mostly 2nd hand laptops, either brand, are good for your files.

if you value your pictures, choose the laptop that has higher resolution like 128mb or higher.

The key things to look for are:
- memory
- speed of CPU
- peripherals (e.g serial port, usb ports)
- wireless and ethernet connectivity
- software (does it have the OEM version of the operating system as in Windows XP)

The software is a big factor since i understand that the Windows operating system is often OEM'd on various systems and to upgrade, change it you need the original disks.

Not worth it unless you have the budget to replace the hard drive, after 3 years, they should be replaced, especially if you are going to trust it with your pics.

Other than that, almost any laptop will work for your needs if it works at all.
