ive done it plenty of times on fwd. my personal experience is i removed the driver side strut, removed both axles, bell housing bolts, and all other components. then i loosened up the subframe bolts and pulled the tranny out onto my lap. it took me 41/2 hours to do completely. hope you have fun.

My experiences with aftermarket clutch kits is one that is not good and usually makes the person who bought the cheap one furious as they end up having to do things twice. These are not an easy job to do as the motor has to be supported while you take everything else out. Without a hoist or some serious tools, you are going to have trouble. With the age of the car, I would plan on some other things being found when the car is taken apart which is never considered before but is almost always the case when it is apart. If you don't have the money I would park it and wait for the money as this can cost you huge if you do it twice. Remember, you get what you pay for. Good luck.

That's a pretty difficult job, since it's a front wheel drive car and you have to drop the entire drivetrain beneath the car to get at the clutch. Not like the old days of rear wheel drive cars, where dropping the transmission was not such an ordeal. Go to an auto parts store like Autozone and buy a Haynes manual for your year and model. Read up on the process and decide if it's something you think you might be able to tackle. It has decent instructions, and you can do it as long as you have the right tools and can follow directions.

you could do it yourself if you know how. but front drives are a b*tch. you have to pull the axles and there is very little space to work. i would find a shade tree and let them do it. make sure you get references first. lots of back yard techs are very skilled. should run you about 400 bucks. compared to a grand or so at a dealership. good luck!
