I opened my mail box to find my electric bill, with all the correct papers, but it was in an unsealed envelope (doesn't look opened, just never sealed). The sticky stuff never was activated to seal it up. Is there anyone that can be blamed for this? Can I take this to someone for some sort of compensation? I am pretty sure no harm came to the information, but I think this kind of thing should probably be reported. Go to the post office? talk to the electric company?
What should I do?

Don't get excited...-This sort of thing HAPPENS once in awhile. Everything is done by machine nowadays- & evidently your bill didn't get sealed properly. Unless it happens again- like to your NEXT Electric bill- forget about it. It's just a mechanical anomaly.

What kind of confidential information would this electric bill contain, I mean your home address is printed clearly on the front for everyone to see, what could be more private than that, that would be inside. Now if it were a bank statement, or even a phone bill (with phone #'s in it) I would consider it different.

It is who ever mailed it. It is most likey the machine that the electric company uses to stuff the envolopes maybe the part that sticks the stick together part is not working I don't think you will get compensation for it. talk to the electric company.
Good Luck

Sealing the envelope is the responsibility of the sender, not the carrier, but you probably won't get anything out of it. Things like that are harder to prove than you think.
