hmmm.. well, i think the 1st thing you should do is remove the brackets, and to do so, you need to put a 1 in front of the brackets eg see it as 1 (5x-3) + 4 = 11. then it should look like 5x-3+4 = 11. collecting like terms would get it down to 5x+1 = 11 (as -3+4= 1). and then subtract 1 on both sides to get rid of the 1 would get it down to 5x = 10. and from there divide it by 5 on both sides, and the answer in this case would mean x = 2. to get the other answer, instead of removing the brackets, leave them. (5x-3) = 7. removing the brackets would be 5x-3 = -7. then add 3 on both sides and you get 5x = -4 (as -7+3). then you divide both sides by 5. therefore, x = -4/5

l 5x - 3 l + 4 = 11
subtract 4 for both sides
l 5x - 3 l = 7
Two equations
5x - 3 = 7 and 5x - 3 = -7
solve each one individually
5x - 3 = 7
5x = 10
x = 2
5x - 3 = -7
5x = -4
x = -4/5
you are correct!

My answer:
[5x-3] + 4 = 11
5x - 3 = 11 - 4
5x = 7 + 3
x = 10/5
x = 2
Lol I hope it's the correct answer...
