Some of them have a mental condition which renders them helpless to this practice. They have a condition that needs to be professionally addressed. Until they get it, or until they become fatal victims because no help came when they truly needed it--they're going to continue to be this way. Others find it convenient to mock people with this condition. But, it is truly a sickness--not funny at all.

They think it makes them the victim. I have a student like this this year. He is the biggest baby and a pathological liar.
