My husband and I will be having our 3 child in september.
The little girl we've always wanted.
My husbands best friend, Tyler, just died.
We want to name out daughter Tyler but were not sure if there would be problems with it later on in life.
Would spelling it Teiler make it a bit more feminine?
Opinions Please?

The first adult named Tyler I ever met was a woman. She had the prettiest red hair I ever seen, and she was a poet. I'm not sure how she spelled it. I always assumed that it was Tyler, though.

Yes it is okay to name your baby girl Teiler. Though as you can tell in this day and age kids will probably say TEILER IS A BOYS NAME. I think you should because it is unique and new.

But you also could...

1. Make her middle name Tyler or teiler.
2. Make her name Taylor because it is like a girl version of Tyler.
3. What was his middle name(your husbands best friend) was it more feminine if it was use that as her name and make Tyler the middle name.

I hope I helped at least a little.

I don't see the problem. Tyler's a girl's name too. It's more common for boys, of course, but that's okay. When my mom was in school, she says people used to get picked on for their names a lot, but nowadays people have such unique names that it doesn't happen anymore - I just graduated high school and I've barely even seen people get teased mildly for their names. So I don't think Tyler will be a bad girl's name at all. Make sure she has good self esteem in general, and if she asks or complains about her name, explain that its a name for either a boy or a girl and you named her after a person (who I'm assuming was male) not for his gender, but for his good character and in his memory. Hopefully, it'll be something she becomes proud of as she grows up.
And if your daughter doesn't like her name when she's younger, don't sweat it. Lots of kids, especially girls, do that. It's just a phase. When I was younger, I wished I had a common name, but now I love my name, and I like having an uncommon name. Little kids just find problems with their names, whether it's Mary or Chewbacca. Some kids even go so far as to request being called by a different name. If they do, just put up with it, because it's probably just a phase.
If you still feel uneasy naming your daughter Tyler, you could make it her middle name. Or, name her Tyler as her first name, but give her a girly middle name that she could use alternately if she chose to.
Good luck with your naming, and congratulations on your new baby. I think Tyler is a beautiful name for a girl.

I wouldn't spell it Teiler. No sense in it. Most people wouldn't know how to say it, ya know? And if someone asks her name to write it down they'll think it is spelled Tyler anyhow.

There are girls named Alex and things like that, even "Taylor". So I don't think it would be a huge problem later in life for her to be named Tyler. Plus there is a lot of meaning behind the name. I don't think it's a bad idea. She may have some problems when she's younger with it, so that is something to consider before deciding on naming her that. As others said, Tyler as a middle name is also a good idea.

I think spelling it teiler would seem awkward. Tyler is a pretty name, and it's not uncommon to use various names for either gender. I know a boy named Kelly for that matter. I think it's largely up to you, and it probably won't cause that much problem later on. Kids always have problems with their names, no matter what name you give them (My name is Nicole. I like it now, but when I was a kid, I hated it). At least with the name Tyler you can tell your child that you had a specific reason in giving her that name.

How about adding an "a" to it and name her Tayler, I don't think it would cause problems for her if you named her just Tyler just fem it up with a girly-girl middle name. Also a lot of people give their children a certain first name yet use their middle name for everyday. So name the baby Tyler out of respect for your husbands friend, then give her a middle name to go by, and tell everyone Her name is Tyler "blank" but she will go by "blank"

So many typically boys names are used for girls now that i don't see that it would cause a problem. I like the original spelling of Tyler, just give her an obviously female second name. I think it is very sweet to name her after your husband's friend.

I think Tyler is one of those names that can be used for either sex. I personally like the original spelling. If you don't want to do the first name you could always make it the second name and still honor the friend.

I know two girls named tyler and they are very popular, the name has not been bad for them. I do like the spelling Teiler but that could make it worse because the whole idea of having to spell you name out for everyone and correcting all the people who spell it the other way could be hard. Trust me my name is not easy to spell and i hate when i always have to correct people. but it does give something special to the name.

To me Tyler is one of those names that can work for either. I don't think she would be made fun of for that name. There is a book called Bloodstone by Gwen Hunter and the main character's name is Tyler and she is a girl. If it's acceptable for a book it will probably catch on in real life.
