Yes. They are truly annoying. I think that some of them have such low self-esteem that this mannerism is the only way they can "feel" superior. Others are just plain mean!
Consider the source, and ignore them. The others that heard their comment already think poorly of them. Replying when you are mad will just make YOU look bad also.

They are annoying - but I think deep down they must be insecure to try to make you feel low.
