Wow I cant believe the amount of responses on this question!! I think that this question will never be answered because its just like the abortion question, that "Is it right or wrong". Everyone has their own opinion about this. I used to believe that it was a life choice, but after knowing some gay people I have learned that it indeed is NOT a life choice,it just happens. I also don't believe that God makes mistakes about which soul to put in which body, I think that just some things are allowed to cause us confusion in life. That's just my thought on that...Just like many people have said on here, who would chose a life of ridicule and rejection?? Also some people have posed the question for the strait people out there, we didn't chose to be strait now did we? ,its just written in our DNA or in our brains or something. Its just one of those things we as humans will never figure out why things are the way they are.....just treat everyone kind no matter their sexual orintation.

To say you are gay because you were born gay is to say that a straight man cannot have sex with another man, because he is genetically incapable of doing so.
However, you know this isn't so. It's a choice people make.
It's said to be genetic as that relieves a person of taking personal responsibility for their actions.
A gay person is more likely to have come from a divorced home raised by the mother than to have any gay members in their family tree.

You're born gay, but some gay people, like kiddie_bugger and rembrant_rocks for example, choose not to act on their orientation in order to avoid the stigma of being a sexually and/or romantically active gay person.

i have a theory.i was watching "House" and he said some thing that made sence to me .It was the episode where a young girl had testicles!ya,sick but any ways . he said some about "men being the ultimate female!" well every human being starts out as a female chromosome! then thru miosis its determined what sex you become.but i see it as maybe some men have more female hormones and some females have more male hormones!thats why you see girlly men!and butch women!im thinking theres a chromosome that tells you that your attracted to the opposite sex!how else would we know to mate ?how would animals now to mate with the opposite sex?its in the genes!my theory is that maybe some men still have that female gene thats in the x chromosone thats tells the female to be attracted to a male,! or it could just be that your possesed by the spirit of homosexuality! go repent!

ok. think about it. you chose to be gay; so, now you have to hide your self from most ppl or they'll think of you as 'queer' and everything that idea entails. most guys will only take advantage of you b/c you desire a 'forbidden' sex, serious relationships will be far and few between. not to mention gay-friendly or welcoming! and there is always the chance you'll be outted by a 'friend' and get beaten to a pulp.
or maybe you're born that way and all this is just part and parcel to your life while trying to be 'normal' for YOURSELF!
please continue to talk about it! we're tired of carrying pepper spray, tasers, and guns! i'd like to believe other lgbt's would rather have nice clothes and a decent haircut. i know, rather than spend my money at the range, i'd rather buy a nice pair of shoes! lol!!

Boy, that's the question of the century, isn't it? Until that elusive "homosexual gene" is discovered in our DNA, it's probably going to continue to be a matter of opinion.
In my opinion, there is more than one reason for homosexual behavior. People who are sexually abused often resort to homosexuality. Others simply experiment during adolescence (though these people are not considered gay unless they adopt such behavior as a continued lifestyle). Still others claim to have been that way since birth, yet homosexuality is in no way genetic. Therefore (again, my personal opinion), I believe they simply choose to be gay.
When contemplating this question, I look to nature. In nature, no species can survive unless it can reproduce. Therefore, if homosexuals were that way by design, then they would be able to procreate. They are not, leading me to conclude that people are either gay by extreme sexual abuse or trauma, or by choice. By that same argument, the closest I can come to agreeing that people are born gay is if it is by some defect. I realize how infuriating that must sound, but again, if it were by design, then why wouldn't homosexuals be able to reproduce?

It is not a life choice. Who would intentionally chose to be shunned, abused, misunderstood etc. on purpose??? From all the friends I have who are gay, they say they were born that way.
There is nothing wrong with being gay. And there would be nothing wrong with it even if it was a "life choice". I mean...who the heck really cares in the grand scheme of things.

People are BORN gay ... so are animals in the same 'percentages' on all the 'measurable scales' ... if it was a 'life choice' then ONLY humans could be gay ... but did you hear about the 'gay flamingos' being given an orphan to raise in Florida ... that was a TRUE STORY, and that should 'prove my point' ...

Yup, gotta agree with the consensus here...BORN THAT WAY!
Who would actually CHOOSE to be hated, picked on, harassed, fired, denied housing, beaten and even MURDERED for who you love?
Also...it's not a 'lifestyle."
What about the way I live my life is a "gay lifestyle" as opposed to a "Straight lifestyle?"
Without knowing my personal sexual orientation...just guess.
I am a Mom, A daughter, a Sister, an Aunt. I own my own business, do volunteer work in my community and for my son's school, I pay my bills, do the shopping, wash the dishes, run the errands and pay my taxes.
I served in the military and my country, voluntarily vowing to protect this nation and it's Constitution from enemies both foreign as domestic.
So...am I straight or am I gay?
What about the way I live tells you this?
