Yeah, it's usually a little cheaper buying RAM online, but you'd need to know exactly what type you already have.

RAM is pretty easy to install, you just push the chip into a slot- but I'm not sure what Staples would charge for installing it. I'd recommend a local computer shop, if there's one near you. STAPLES or Office Depot might have a long line of service requests ahead of you.

it really depends. First, how old is the computer? do you know what kind of ram your PC takes? if you don't know, don't worry. you will learn over time. now, do you trust Staples to install the ram? do you have a friend that builds computers or repairs them that you trust? a friend or neighbor that has had computer work done at another shop?

One, it is a trust thing. who do you trust to make sure you do not get taken. and yes it happens.
Two, making sure you know what you are getting. check out www.crucial.com and either select your computer or let it get the information and it can tell you what your max ram, what you have and an idea of pricing.
finally, do not be afraid. it is just like finding a mechanic for your car, remember your friends are your best source of information.

I'd really steer clear of most tech shops, CompUSA, Bestbuy, Staples, etc. Many of them are very undertrained, and rather careless, can cause damage to your computer that may not be apparent for several months. If you install it yourself, following a good guide such as ( http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,18024-page,1/article.html ), you should be ok. PNY has a nice configurator page ( http://www2.pny.com/configurator/index.aspx?manufacturer= ) that allows you to lookup what ram your computer uses, if you buy another brand, just be sure to match the speed and type.

type and amount of RAM depends on the motherboard in your computer. likewise, the price of upgrading depends on what type and how much RAM you want to add.
