There are 15 diff key chips for this car. If it is flat on top the cuts on one side and a little square box type thing on the key blade twards the top? If so this is the case. It costs 34.00 at a dealer. ( plus tax). The extra key you have, does it look the same as the original. If so some one at some time has changed the ignition. Take it to the dealer. The "dealer" isnt a bad place. They can help you.

You're in trouble. Both of the keys that you had should have had the same so called chip in the top of the key. Obviously the two keys do not have the same chip. The "chip" is actually just a resistor that drops the voltage in the circuit and the module reads the voltage to determine that it is the correct value and then allow the motor to start. I don't know how this happened to you as they don't usually have two different values installed into the same car at the factory. If the ignition turns on as you say the radio comes on, then you will have to either attempt to figure out which code you have. I think there are 15 or 16 different resistor values for these cars. A lot of times the dealer who originally sold the car will have written this " key code" into the warranty book, so look there first. They also might have the code in their paperwork so if you know who sold it, give them a call. If you can't get this code, you are stuck with either replacing the complete VATS ignition cylinder with new keys and a new module as they can only be coded once, or you can get a new VATS module and attempt to let the key that works reset the value inside. There might be a problem with the key's resistor that is causing the problem though. Dealers have a tool that reads the key code so you can try that as well. The keys are fairly expensive, 70-100 bucks, so you judge. Good luck.

I know there is a re-learn procedure for getting new keys to work, but I don't know it off the top of my head. Something about leaving it in a certain number of seconds a couple times. Do a web search. Also search www.clubgp.com/newforum
