It sounds like a safety devive is keeping the dryer from providing heat. If the lint trap was stopped up and reduced the airflow a "limit switch" may need to be reset. If it is an older unit with a pilot light, the pilot may be out. If it is a newer unit with electronic spark ignition, you may not be getting proper flame rectification.
Depending on which type you have, if a pilot, then check the pilot light, if it won't stay lit it could just be a $5.00 thermocouple, or a gas vailve.
If it is electronic, it is most likely a limit switch needs reset, or possibly a bad controoler. Its kind of hard to diagnose w/o being able to quickly look at the unit.

Cleaning the lint trap should not stop the dryer from functioning. Check door switch. timer, plug, receptacle, circuit breaker, etc.....all the obvious.

If it is electric, the coil may be burnt out.
Gas, couldn't tell you on that.
Is it going on and no heat?
Clean the hose that goes outside. Sometimes build up of fuzz gets in there.
