Ok if you want one of NYC's finest you want a police officer if you want a NYC firefighter you want the bravest! I'm a firefighter's daughter and they are gone alot. My hubby is currently a paramedic and will be going to the fire academy soon. Um they work really weird shifts, but you get used to it. They are great guys though. You'll worry about them like you would if you were with someone in the Military or a police officer. But they have a very honorable job. They are very hardworking guys, who don't mind getting dirty once in a while. If you want to know what its like then go out with a firefighter. Most are very handsome and there is just something about the way they look in that uniform, OMG. They are super sexy aren't they? Good luck with your search for the fireman of your dreams.

Today is my 14th wedding anniversary. My husband was a firefighter when I met him. He changed careers for money reasons.

Firefighters are generally great people who put others needs first. They realize their jobs are dangerous and like to enjoy their lives. They do not make a lot of money (though they SHOULD).

You are always extra proud to tell people what your man does. Firefighting is more than a job - it's in their souls. My husband would love to be right back in "the house".

One little warning: turn the scanner off when they are on duty. You will not sleep!

Good luck!

It's like dating a cop, doctor or someone in the military. You have to be strong, confident and able to handle everything by yourself. I say this because every time you make plans to do something, he will be called out to a fire in the middle of whatever it is you planned. Just like all those other professions I mentioned.

They're gone alot, they hang out with the guys alot (they have to in order to build trust and be a "family"), you have to drop everything so they can go at a moment's notice, and you have to deal with always coming in "2nd" next to a burning building.
