In Britain, jobs are advertised in The Stage, as the industry's newspaper (weekly on Thursdays) (also on their website).
There is the publication Professional Casting Report which you have to subscribe to, for 6 months, say.
You can learn of opportunities from other actors, eg via an Equity branch (these meet monthly).
Actors' co-operative agencies are an increasingly popular way of performers getting work for each other. You all put one day a week in at the co-op office, on a rota, when you are not working.
As an individual, you can advertise yourself in Spotlight with a photograph and if your face fits, they contact you about auditioning for them. Casting Directors regularly consult Spotlight as part of their trawl for talent.

To get the best open acting auditions, try to find a local source. You'll need auditions in your area. In North Texas, try http://DFWTheater.com. Local lists will include independent and student films, and other work for non-union actors,
TV commercial auditions are rarely open auditions. The producers contact agents, and only actors that are represented by agents are allowed to audition. In some states, you must be a member of the actor's union, SAG
Visit the link below to get a list of SAG agents. There may also be good non-SAG agents in your area. These are normally licensed by the state government, and you can get a list from the state licensing office.

You need a Talent Manager or Talent Agent, if you want legitimate auditions.
If you have friends that act and get auditions, ask them for the name of the their (legitimate) Talent Agency.
Asking for a Good agent/agency, is not going to help you if you don't live in the city where the agency is located.
The best talent agencies are in New York City and Los Angeles. So, I doubt if you're going to relocate to either city!
