If you are happy in the long run being a sycophant (the closest word I could find) then it is not wrong.

I would say if you flatter others in an unauthentic way, then you are morally wrong because there is a falseness to your actions. However, if in being a sycophant, you tell them not only what they want to hear but also what you authentically think about them, then you are justified and not wrong.

There's a big difference between being humble and being a sicko-fant. Being humble is allowing others to be themselves by being open, honest, and unassuming; being a sicko-fant is trying to get something from others by pretending to be humble. Being humble doesn't mean giving up on thinking for yourself.
