As a policy, sure. But as with any policy, there are exceptions. Your character is important because it establishes how other people think of you. Being know as honest helps your relationships with other people.

But there are also times when it is good to lie. An extreme example would be if a murderer asked if there was anyone else in the house. It would be best to lie and say nobody is home, even if they are hiding upstairs.

Honesty is the best character trait. But there are exceptions to every rule. For the most part yes. Depends on the situation though. I would lie to save someones life or possibly someones feelings.

You shouldn't lie just to make someone feel better for themselves. If you think those pants make me look fat I expect you to tell me. A true friend would do that and no true friend would ask a direct question that they didn't want a true answer to. A friend would just smile as you left the restroom together. A great friend would tell you your skirt was caught in your pantyhose before you left the restroom.

I guess in general, yes. I mean...if someone asks you if you stole something, you should tell the truth and take what you deserve, but if your friend asks you if you like her new haircut, I wouldn't say "no, you look like a hedgehog"...even if it was true.... You need to be honest, but tactful.

definitely, usually thr truth hurts loads and isn't taken well at first (generally cos no one tells the truth so people dont expect it!) but is usually appreciated later
