Even if you could find someone willing to sell you a chimp, it would most likely be illegal, prohibitively expensive, and unless you were prepared to spend the next 20 or so years of your life caring for the chimp 24/7, including feeding, medical bills, shelter, cleaning, love and attention, exercise and mental and psychological support, it could be very bad for the chimp, yourself and your family.
Chimps are the animal genetically closest to humans. Our physiology and our brains are similar. Chimps are intelligent, feeling, needing creatures, who, because their intelligencee generally evens out at about the level of a five-year-old child, need care, supervision, and interaction with other chimps (or their human owners) most of the time.Chimps require a lot of room to move around, to explore and play and exercise. If they don't have these things, they can eventually go insane with boredom, with loneliness and with frustration.
Did you know that most of the chimps you see in movies or tv shows or performing tricks in animal parks are only about 2-3 years old? When they get older, chimps get a lot bigger, more agressive and incredibly strong. Imagine (remembering that chimps don't have the full reasoning power that humans do) dealing with a chimp having a temper tantrum, with the strength to accidentally tear off your arm if it pulled away from you suddenly. Most chimps in captivity (owned by humans) are kept in sanctuaries and/or caged after they reach maturity. They are not tame animals, even if they've grown up in loving homes.
The idea of having a chimp may be appealing, but they're not pets. They're biological relatives, Better to have a more familiar pet, and appreciate chimps in their own natural homes away from people.

You can buy almost any kind of animal if you have the money. That doesn't make it right to own them.
