Is there any way to make my computer faster?

Are you wanting your COMPUTER to be faster, or your INTERNET CONNECTION to be faster. Your computer doesn't drive the speeds of your internet connection. The ISP (Internet Service Provider does). Your computer would be responsible for managing the web browser, but loading web pages and downloading stuff is strictly based on the internet connectivity.

B/c you mention dial-up and DSL in your question I assume your trying to increase the speed of your internet connection. If dial-up is the only think you have for connectivity and DSL is not available, your options are severely limited. Unfortunately, using a copper telephone line for your internet connection you will ONLY ever get the maximum baud rate for a standard telephone line (advertised as a 56K modem, but more often than not never higher than about 53K if you're lucky, the high 33's and low 44Kbs are the normal connection speeds for the average home dial-up user). The only other option is to investigate whether or not satellite based high speed internet is available in your area (HughesNet or WildBlue if you live in the US). This will remedy your slow internet connection speeds, but its going cost more b/c it require a satellite dish, and is subject to many other factors as a result.

if you mean make your internet connection faster, not really. Dial-up (and broadband speeds for that matter) are limited by the FCC. 56k is as fast as it gets for dial-up.

The only way you could make it faster is to increase its RAM.
Downloading software online won't get any faster that's your netservers problem.
