1. (8 - 3) (12 ÷ 2 • 2) - 20
= 5 (6 • 2) - 20
= 5(12) - 20
= 60 - 20
= 40.

2. Convert 0.45 to a fraction and write the result in lowest terms.
0.45 = 45 / 100 = 9 / 20.

3. (same as 2 - did you type it in incorrectly?)

4. 6x - 7 = 5(x - 2)
<=> 6x - 7 = 5x - 10
<=> 6x - 5x = -10 + 7
<=> x = -3

5. The length of one of the equal legs of an isosceles triangle is 3 inches more than 2 times the length of the base. If the perimeter is 31 in, find the length of one of the equal legs.

Let the base be x inches, then the equal legs are 2x + 3 inches. So the total perimeter is x + 2 (2x+3) = x + 4x + 6 = 5x + 6 = 31 inches, so we have 5x = 31 - 6 = 25 and so x = 5 inches. So the base is 5 inches and the equal legs are 2(5) + 3 = 13 inches.

6. 2x - 8 = 12
<=> 2x = 12 + 8
<=> 2x = 20
<=> x = 20 / 2
<=> x = 10

7. Is -8 a solution to the equation 12 – x = 4?
No, since 12 - (-8) = 12 + 8 = 20.

8. Is 10 a solution to the equation 2x - 9 = 11?
Yes, since 2(10) - 9 = 20 - 9 = 11.

9. Solve for y. 3x – 2y = 12
3x - 2y = 12
<=> 3x = 12 + 2y
<=> 2y + 12 = 3x
<=> 2y = 3x - 12
<=> y = 3x / 2 - 6

10. -3(x - 3) + 8(x - 3) = x - 9
<=> -3x + 9 + 8x - 24 = x - 9
<=> -3x + 8x - x = -9 - 9 + 24
<=> (-3 + 8 - 1) x = 6
<=> 4x = 6
<=> x = 6 / 4
<=> x = 3 / 2.

1) PEMDAS (Parentheses, Exponents, Mult, Divi., addt, subt) =(8-3)(12÷2•2)-20= (5)(12÷4)-20= (5)(3)=15

2) 9/20

3) I don't see anything different from 2

4) 6x-7=5x-10 => 6x=5x-3=> x=-3

5) the answer is the base is 5 therefore the legs are 13

6) 2x-8=12 => 2x=20=> x=10

7) no

8) yes

9) (3x - 12)/2=y

10) (-3x+9)+(8x-24)=x-9 => 5x-15=x-9 = > 4x=6 = > x=3/2

6. add at to both sides. 2x=20. then divide by 2. x=10
7. put -8 in for x. so...12-(-8)=4/ 12+8 = 20. 20 doesn't equal 4. So the answer is no.
8. same as 7
