I live in Ohio. I want to see some shooting stars and tonight is a really good night. What is the time between you see them? or how many per hour or whatever.

There are no meteor showers visible at the moment. If you hang out and watch for an hour you might see one of two random ones. You have to be patient.

There is no set amount of debris entering our atmosphere and burning up at any given time - that's what shooting stars are. Other than known times of the year when the Earth passes through an area of space laden with debris (e.g. the Leonid meteor fragments) in which case there is increased 'shooting star' activity. But the rest of the time, you're just as likely to see 10 shooting stars in between the hours of 10 & 11pm as you are between 2 & 3am (those numbers and times are just arbitrary examples - please don't go outside at those hours expecting to see 10 shooting stars)

So, just go outside after dark whenever you want to, look up, and wait....

NOTE: the further away from a city you are the more shooting stars you will see - cities give off a lot of light pollution, which makes less-bright objects harder to see.

As 404 error has mentioned, it can be hard to see stars and "shooting stars" with the ambient light from cities. I've been flying around 9-13,000 feet in the middle of the night and been able to see amazing amounts of shooting stars on a clear night. We dimmed the cabin lights and averaged a few every minute.

Hi. There are two types, sporadic and those associated with a meteor shower. In a dark sky you will see about two or three sporadic meteors an hour.
