Based on all the information available now, yes. There is no reason to think otherwise, as he was pretty much the consensus of most scouts. But you can never tell 100% for sure until they play. It takes more than just talent. It takes character and luck. You never know.

Ask me in 10 years. Only Nosradamus could know. Maybe/probably someone else ends up being better, where you end up saying, jeesh, we could have had him. Plenty of years, when there is no clear cut #1 like a Crosby or Lemieux, it really is a crap shoot. One might think I'd add Ovechkin to that list but I think Malkin will end up better when all is said and done.
Also, you have to realize that it wasn't even set in stone that they were going to take Kane. That's how close the players in this draft were. All decent but none overwhelming.
All this said, Kane has impressed me so maybe. I'd put his odds of being the best at this draft class at 20% which is actually pretty high.

Disclaimer- I thoought Todd Harvey was going to be a great hockey player. Wrong.

Alex Daigle had the talent to live up to be the number one pick at the time. What kind of career did he end up with?
Daigle even said at the draft, "You never remember who number 2 is." Who was number two that year? Chris Pronger, drafted by Hartford.

Drafts are always a crap shoot. The number one often doesn't pan out and this doesn't just apply to hockey.
Kane will be as good as he wants to be. Too bad he has to work for the Wirtz's for the next few years. He certainly had one heck of a year in London.

Only time will tell, but the kid's got sick hands and will be given every opportunity to shine by the talently-challenged Hawks.

Yes, otherwise he wouldn't have been picked first.
