You want to use WPA or WPA-2 with PSK or TKIP encryption. Use a long WPA KEY with random letters and numbers. One good example of a good key would be you great aunts address or your 3rd cousins address. You dont want to use your address or something people can guess.
"123AnywayDriveMemphisTenn90210GreatAuntie"

If you want to be creative go with something like:
"hbHJHgY677HBJHvh66hJHg8"
and keep it written down somewhere or save it in a text file on a flash drive. Another one of my favorites is to take a book you really like and pick a page. Take the first letter from every sentence down the edge of the page to develop a key. Pick a page thats your favorite # and you will always know where your key is! I believe WPA keys can be up to 36 characters.

You DO NOT want to rely on just MAC authentication as another suggested, you want your transmitted data ENCRYPTED. WEP is very unsecure and can be broken down within 1 minute.
Having NO encryption will allow others to pickup your wireless packets.

Both are ways to encrypt. The purpose to encrypt is to keep the encrypted from being understood.

The better enrcryption is the one that is harder to decrypt.

Tell me whether your encryptor is more proficient in decrypting WPA or WPE and I will be able to answer your question.

A parallel of your question is which should I protect better, my front or my back door. The answer is which will be attacked, the front or the back. Once you anser the question of which door will be attacked, we can answer which you should protect.

Both keep the multitude of hackers at bay. Either can be overcome by sophisticated hackers.

WPA is a stronger method of encryption than WPE.

Encryption is good but bear in mind, when you run it you greatly reduce the effective range of your routers signal! I normally use the mac's on my network for my security instead of relying on something that can be hacked in 10 minutes.
