Hi, my computer is going wacky and I was thinking of buying a new one and I was thinking of a laptop/notebook. Do any of you know the best and cheapest way to getting a laptop? And do many laptops come with programs like Microsoft Word and other programs like that. Anyone who has a laptop would be a great help and how you went about to getting your laptop. Thanks, any help is appreciated.

Well that depends where you are. If your'e in the US then you could simply drop by Best Buy, Circuit City, Comp USA, Office depot, Wal mart, etc. Or you could buy online. If not, you could buy laptops online like tigerdirect.com, newegg.com. If you want the cheap ones look for refurbished laptops. But for brand new you could buy as cheap as a 399 dollar laptop, but of course it is below par. It has the cheapest everything in it, but once in a while you get to find a 600 dollar laptop that is really worth a thousand dollars more because of its specs and sometimes you get more because of factory mistakes(this i am not sure if it is indeed mistakes) like Gateway right now that usually puts different and better processors as with what they advertise. If you want my opinion on the best cheapest laptop out there right now I think it is the gateway MT3707. With Pentium dual core 1.6, 1 gig ram, 160 gig hd, dvd dual layer writer, ultrabright screen, 4-in-1 media card reader, wifi, lan, modem, 3 usb slots, express card slot, 3 hours of battery life, and the new vista premium for $650 with tax and on sale in Bestbuy.com I think it's a very good deal.

One of the cheapest ways to get a good laptop is to buy one that is gently used. Many people are upgrading to Dual Core laptops and a good Pentium 4 can be had for much less than it's original price tag.

Ask each owner what Authentic Registered programs come with the laptop and always insist on getting the install disks.

As for your old computer, consider getting it cleaned out, or having the hard drive formatted and XP reinstalled. This can give you a few more years of use while you look for just the right laptop.

Most don't come with Microsoft Office (word). I would suggest going with the Dell Latitude series. I've worked on and repaired hundreds of them and in my experience, the Latitude series has been much more reliable and sturdy than any of the others.

The Latitude D630's are very good. We've been buying lots of them.

Plus, you can't beat Dell's customer support.

I bought a HP Compaq Presario for under 1,000 and I love it. Most do not come with Microsoft Office, something you would need to buy separetely or reinstall from your last computer.

alienware is a little overkill for general use, they are built for gaming. They ARE reliable, but extremely expensive. You might as well go with a general dell computer, otherwise, if you want a desktop, visit my 360 page and send me a message, I build the most reliable computers I know.
