No, to make a mistake is just part of being human. Being able to admit to your mistakes, will just lead you to being an even
better person. I have met some people although they say they make mistakes don't seem to remember any occasions where the mistake was made. If you do try to cover-up a mistake it will more than likely come back and " bite you in the butt." Tell the truth then you will not have to try to remember what lie you told." Be honest with yourself."

I think there have been times when I was too proud to see that I had made a mistake, but if I can see it, I will admit to it. That actually wins more points than trying the cover-up.
Back when I was young enough to be under my parents' discipline, of course, I often was too scared to admit it, but that's different. I usually claimed my sister did it. Or the dog, if possible. It seldom worked.

Everyone is faced with this dilema at varying levels of severity. Always, and in the best of all possible worlds, everyone would own up freely and honestly to their mistakes and others would react accordingly.
By this I mean there would not be a reactionary core of haters ready to decend on the person who has made the mistake, but the reaction would be in consideration that anyone of us under similar circumstances could have been held responsible for the same unforseen outcome.
Where there is an atmosphere imbued with integrity the persons involved in some errors are far more likely to be forthcoming.
This being said, one must be very careful of becoming to self revelatory in all matters where there could be a negative ledger being compiled by those aforementioned "nabobs of negativism", who have often cast a preordained agenda before them and then look to simply fill in the necessary blanks. Individual worth and specific merit not included.
Theodore Roosevelt has a very memorable quotation attributed to him which I think speaks directly to this question.
"It is not the critic who counts, nor the man who points how the strong man stumbled or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. I suppose so, but then, being so proud, I don't feel I made any mistake! Even till now, I would not admit I was wrong!
Even the times I thought and admitted I was wrong, it turned out to prove I was right, in the long run!

Oh god no, I mess up all of the time. However, some mistakes are subjective. If I am sure that I did not make a mistake and someone is convinced I did, I will fight it to the end. I don't bother with cover ups, not anymore.

I am almost too ready to admit I made a mistake. I think it's a sign of a character flaw to be unable to admit you made a mistake. I once knew a girl who said she shredded an envelope by mistake at work and blamed it on the post office not delivering it. That just sounded kind of pathetic, admit you made a mistake and move on.
