Is a wireless USB adapter going to work the same as a PCI card to get wireless internet onto a computer from a wireless router.

Yes, in fact the USB may be better than an internal PCI card.
with the USB you can use a cable to be able to move it around thus being able to place it for the best receiption without having to use an external antenna.

Now if the signal is really weak then using an external high gain antenna with a PCI card might have an advantage. If you are within 100 feet of the router either will work just as well.

Both will work the same once the drivers for them are installed.

Yes in fact, the USB should work better than the PCI card.

This same thing came to my mind a while ago.

USB adapters don't perform as well as PCI cards. USB is really designed for peripheral devices like a mouse, thumb drive, etc. Low key stuff.

If you want a powerhouse wireless connection, you want that bad boy connected right onto the motherboard.

Yes, they do the exact same thing, except one uses your USB connection and the other uses the built in PCI bus.
