... or do you have an emotional level that all must reach before you'll even consider intimacy?

No. Everyone is at their own unique level or position of intimacy in my life. I do not limit myself, or them, by setting benchmarks. Each deals with me at their own comfort level - I don't push or demand. Love must be a "free flow" to work.

It's based on what I feel with that individual. I don't have an emotional level that all must reach before I consider intimacy. It's on a "case by case" basis.

different levels, certainly. And sometimes I wonder if I've ever really experienced true love...
Maybe they have all just been infatuation... how would I know?

Actually, when I was 14, I fell desperately in love with this guy named Powell. He was definitely the playboy type, but he was soooo pretty...

I know for a fact that was love, not infatuation. Because, after he broke up with me, it took a full 6 months of crying, screaming, planning and praying for a better love life in the future, to get over him. And there have been some other relationships that lasted years, that I haven't been so emotional about the break-up.

Each relationship is unique in it's own way.

Every relationship has it's own combination / level of passion, intimacy & raw emotion...

This is a good thing, because would you really want every relationship to be exactly the same?

I learned to wait longer for intimacy (sexual) as I got older. Emotional intimacy just develops on it's own in each relationship. I have learned that it is good to have emotional intimacy before the sexual intimacy.

Yes, I have had different levels, and yes, there is a threshold which must be reached. Two lovers (one of whom was almost incidentally also a husband) have been that great passion that sweeps all before it, made me at least a little crazy, especially when he was hugging me (or even closer), and brought me to a spiritual awareness of the value of sexual union. The rest were varying degrees of friendly lovers, or friends with whom sex was pleasant, or something like that.

But then, I was married a total of four times, so you make make what you will of the first three husbands. (One of the two Great Passions was never a husband.)
