Those people think Taiwan is part of the China, do you have any thing to prove that? After the WWII, Japan gave up Taiwan to US and the allies, there is no formal document mentioned that Taiwan back to China. If you don't believe you can go search any where to find out yourself. Let the Taiwan's people decide their own future. US, UK, AU, Japan and the whole world should support their decision. It's human right.

"Can THE Taiwanese people ever gain the freedom they have been waiting over 110 years for?"

For the moment, let's not talk about Taiwan's "allies."

What are the Taiwanese people themselves willing to do to gain that freedom? Will they negotiate with China? Will they fight to gain their freedom? Most other countries achieve their independence and freedom by negotiationing or fighting - just what have the Taiwanese done, and just what will they do to gain their freedom? If you can answer those questions, you may just get an answer to your questions.

Many nations would like to support democracy in the world and stand up for Taiwan, but they know there'd be war with the PRC. The PRC has been building up the military into the largest in the world. Their #1 priority is the reunification (as they call it) of Taiwan.

If countries supported Taiwan, they'd lose the trade privileges with the PRC and its cheap labor market. So, in the name of a dollar, Taiwan goes unrecognized. In this case, communist appeasement and money always trump democracy.

This is why the US has no problems doing business with Saudi Arabia. It's not a democracy, but why argue when there's money to be made?

Also, the US and China don't want war. So we wait it out. The US is pretty ambiguous about recognizing Taiwan as a nation for this principle and wishes to let Taipei and Beijng sort it out alone.

It's a tough issue, but with no easy answers. I find it strange that a plucky democracy like Taiwan with its freedoms is denied a UN seat, but for some reason North Korea is granted admission. WTF?

China has consistently maintained that they would view such a declaration as insurrection and be cause for war.

Put yourself in China's shoes. They don't want war either, but they cannot afford to have their territories decide that they want out. The U.S. didn't allow it when the South seceded, so the North invaded the South.

China doesn't want war. So it lives with a compromise. Allow Taiwan self rule, but warn against declaring independence. Given that this arrangement has lasted all these years indicates that it has been an effective compromise that has avoided needless bloodshed.

I believe that the US and its Allies sold out Taiwan, to gain favor with the Government of China , the rumor is( I say rumor because I do not know that it is factual) that Formosa (Taiwan) has never been part of China, But laid claim to it because the defeated Nationalist forces, took over the island.
I do not believe that China would really go to war to conquer Taiwan, but 2 recent actions by China point to this possibility #1 the recent destruction of a satellite in space(American "shock and Awe") tactics depend on these satellites to guide missiles and bombs. #2 the great modernization of the Chinese Armed forces and huge defence budget!
