I bought theses cute portucala plants at OSH but no one seems to know how to grow them. Do u dead head them? Do they do well in pots? Are they perennials/annuals? When they no longer flower does the plant stay green. They r so cute and thats about all I know about them besides them
wanting full sun.

You don't have to grow portulaca, portulaca grows itself. I've never seen such a interesting little plant. It loves, loves, loves the sun and if you put it in the ground it will spread with wild abandon. You don't even need to place it in the soil. Break off a piece and toss it on the ground and it will form a brand new plant. Portulaca does not like a lot of water. It is drought tolerant and like succulents holds it's water in it's leaves. Portulaca flowers especially hate water and will wilt if gotten wet. Portulaca will also dead head itself, however, the dead flowers will make the plant very unattractive until they slide off. Anyhow, I hope this helps. Oh, and it reseeds freely. I still have portulaca popping up in my garden and I haven't planted it in 3 years. Have fun, it's a great plant.

It is a plant that takes care of itself. I have some around my little pond garden. I don't dead head them. They grow and flower all summer and into the fall, but they do die off late fall or early winter. I started out with pink ones 2 years ago, since then they reseed every year but the colors are pink, white and yellow.I trim them back from my stepping rocks and then stick the trimmings into the ground where they root themselves and become another plant. They also don't mind the hot weather and they don't need excessive watering.Super Easy Plants. Enjoy them.

They are a desert plant. I have some in a wall basket which gets lots of sun. I added sand to the soil. You don't have to deadhead them, they will keep reflowering. I use "Bloom Booster" on all my flowering plants. I think they are annuals but if you have mild winters they could survive.

portulaca is an annual. It needs to be deadheaded and will do well in pots.. they will usually flower until they freeze.

Many times they will re-seed themselves if you don't stay on top of your deadheading
