If the monitor's getting old, you might need to replace it. But you might just need to change the refresh rate of your monitor. The best way to do this is to find out what the optimum refresh rate is supposed to be by looking at the documentation that came with your monitor. If you no longer have that, you can Google your monitor name and "refresh rate" and see if anyone has a recommendation.

Even if you can't find it out right away, you can experiment by choosing a few different refresh rates and see which one works best. Here's how:

(these directions are written for Windows XP, so you might need to improvise) Right click on a blank area of your desktop, and click on Properties. Click on the Settings Tab, and Click on the Advanced button somewhere near the bottom of that tab. There will probably be a monitor tab or button to click on. On the tab you get from there, you will probably find a drop down box with different refresh rates. There might be quite a few, or there might be just a couple (my monitor has 60 and 75, and it's set to 60). Write down the current refresh rate. Choose something close to what it's currently set at, and see how that works. If it's awful, choose another.

I hope this helps!

A setting was most likely changed in with your graphics card and/or monitor settings. Though for me to fix my problem was a bit different

Though not an issue with your monitor itself

Do you have a LCD monitor? Usually this is from leaving your monitor on for to long. Try turning it off for a while and see if that works. If not you probably need a new monitor.

Sounds like your monitor is pooping. It Happens.

Good news is, if its a desktop, monitors are cheap. Espically if you go back in time and get one of those big ol jobs that isnt a flatscreen.
