They seem to keep to themselves and isolate themselves from society. If they don't integrate with society than do they serve a purpose? There have been some notable monks, Gregor Mendel for example, but he was famous for something other than what monks do. Can someone show me the light?

You might want to read more on Buddhist monks. Buddhist monks lead solitary lives -- although they often are found together. That is until they embark on teaching -- then they have very little time alone.

Monks serve the purpose of a cloistered society. it is actually quite elitist in my view, but that is another matter.

The challenge is in seeing anyone has having value in society. I believe that everyone from the murderer to a world leader each serves a function to the society. Even those who we complain about as being horrific.

Let's hope no one judges you as not serving a useful purpose in society.

I find the answer when I read the book "Plus grands que lámour", translating is something like "Bigger than Love". Author Dominique Lapierre.

Our prayers help others, is a way to give. Prayers of "holly people" reach God faster. He tend to hear and help to people who loves Him very much, faithfully. The prayers of the monks give big relief to the world.

In prayers, there are some Universe´s Principles working. Prayers are energy. That energy can support or heal people even in other part of the world.

If you read that book, you will understand better.

I used to work with a dr who moved to Tibet and became a Buddist monk. He is now a priest. He spends his time giving free medical care to those in his area and is truly one of the kindest souls I've even known.

they're the final. when I take an afternoon to do definitely not something I each so often experience in charge. So i'm wondering the existence of the clergymen, eat slightly, meditate slightly,go mooch some foodstuff slightly.call it an afternoon. They take the rigidity off me. in certainty they're extra appropriate than maximum,as instructors,as properly as offering preparation to their followers and the worldwide.

It is a false assumption believing to be great is to be well known. In my opinion, we are all individuals on this journey. Whether we affect society as a whole is just not that important.

I think that each individual monk has their own individual purpose and hopefully it is for the benefit of all mankind.

Perhaps their function is to simply send positive energy into the universe at large. I don't know for sure that you can do that, but at least they're trying, and that's more than some folks do! :-)
