I started feeding my 17 month old cereal when he was 4 months old. The ped told me that I should start out with a couple of tablespoons of cereal on the first day. The next day I was to give him a couple of tablespoons for breakfast and a couple of tablespoons for dinner. Then gradually work him into half a cup at each meal. It won't be too long before you can start her on 1st foods. If you are uncertain about when you can start 1st foods and juice, I would ask her pediatrician.

When are you planning on moving her to pureed foods? Most parents start at 5 months but some parents (like myself) don't start them until 6 months. If you plan on starting them at 5 months then I would give her cereal only once a day for about a week, twice a day for about a week and then 3 times a day for the next 2 weeks until you start her on pureed. If you are waiting until 6 months for "food" then I would go slower with the cereal. It's really all up to you but to make you feel better maybe just give her pediatrician a call and ask what they think is best. Good Luck!

Both of my kids had cereal at 3-4 months too. I started them at night though. It seemed to help fill their tummies and help them sleep better throughout the night. I gradually added cereal in the AM too and then a fruit or veggie for lunch, etc. Go slow though -- don't try a bunch of new things at once. You need to trial and error to rule out allergies.

I'm assuming your pediatrician put your baby on cereal? If so, that's great. Try giving her a little cereal at dinner time or bedtime. It'll keep her tummy full longer, but you may want to ask the doctor what times are best.

I didn't start my son on cereal until 6 months, per doctors info.
Then, he only had a little, 2 times a day. Breakfast and dinner.

Our kids were like that, too.
I would nurse them, or pump so my husband could give a bottle, and when they were done with that, we'd offer cereal. We did that at every meal.
After 3 days to a week of rice cereal, you can try something else.

I wouldn't give her anything but breastmilk for a while longer. They don't have to have anything but breastmilk for a full year and it's healthier, easier, and cheaper. My 9 mth old is still on only breastmilk and very healthy.

Wait until tomorrow and see if she tolerates it. If she does continue. Check with your pediatrician for increased feedings.
