RAM, in that case, is referring to your 'system memory'. After you've clicked on a game the system memory is where a game is stored on your computer, so obviously the more you have of that the better off you'll be.
You hard drive is also RAM, but it takes far longer to access anything there, and that's why you'll see a lot of advice on the net that if a game is running slow, it probably means you need to install more memory (system memory) or get a better video card. Since you're using a laptop your video is built-in to the motherboard, so getting a better video card is out of the question. So... system memory is way to go: more is better!

I'm not a geek, and I suggest you ask the techs at the store about it. I'm not sure this is right, but this is what I think about RAM. In order for your programs and data to work properly, you need enough RAM so that all this stuff can move around your system freely without freezing up. I think using games takes a lot of RAM. So I'd look at how much RAM the various new computers have and buy the one with the most RAM you can afford. Maybe the one you want will go on sale. Ask the tech.

If you are buying a new laptop, focus on the video card instead and make sure that the video card has plenty of onboard RAM to handle all its own processing. You can always buy more RAM for the machine separately, and RAM is relatively cheap these days.

Easy. The more RAM a cpu has, the smoother and quicker your games will be (loading for the quicker part) Also, it may help with just the overall performance of the PC. Besides RAM, the CPU should have a really good Video Card. I recommend NVidia GE Force 7600 or higher.

ram increases the speed of the computer.short term data is stored in ram. since more ram increases the speed of the computer, it is crucial wen it comes to gaming. a dedicated graphics card is more important in gaming however. what ever computer u get to play games on, make sure it has a dedicated graphics card, or u wont be playing very many games.

ram is random access memory. it will affect the speed your computer goes so i would recamend atleast a 512 mb ram... if you have some money to spend i would get a 2 gb ram. if you want a gaming computer look on www.alienware.com they have expensive stuff but its really good for games

If you want to compare a PC with your brain, your memory would be the hard disk and the RAM would be what you are thinking right now ... your "active memory".
This is a very fast storage to process the information your PC is actually working on it. For gaming I suggest at leat 1Gig and at least 2 gig if your OS is windows vista.

2. basically has a 512mb gpu. Which sucks. in case you want to run video games at extreme photographs and easily a minimum of get a working laptop or computing device or a pc with 1gb of gpu. one million. Has a worse processor yet a extra powerful gpu.
