Get a firewall, I highly recommend ZoneAlarm --they have a freeware edition. You can find the freeware edition faster at MajorGeeks.com . You should also install a couple of spyware shields: Spyware Blaster and Spybot Search & Destroy (Google those and they'll be up at the top). I also recommend an anti-virus app. AntiVir is free of charge, but there are many others to choose from --your choice.
I also have a hardware firewall on my DSL router, but that doesn't count for dialup.
With those four things installed you can stay online indefinitely. After all that the only time I ever had to deal with a virus or a hacker was when I was being stupid and didn't have my firewall working and went online. That was five freakin years ago!

i dont know bout the whole intervals thing, but i do know that you cant be hacked by people if you have proper internet security, and if you dont just put your personal information on the internet. i especially know that aint knowbody from the mid east gunna hack into your computer. no offense, but your information aint nutin in compared to what some crazy people may be looking for.If i were you, I would just dowload something good, like security from the company Norton. Thats what i have. If you do that, and be safe on the internet, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. just dont sign up for stuff on weird, unknown pop - ups and sights that are not well known by other people. And, dont be afraid to leave on your computer.

it's easy: there is a war against Islam, not muslims. i heard that their is a new concept call "islamo-phobia. The number of muslims that is growing year after year is stressing the leader of some nation. please know that "Islam" is a source of the word " salam" and salam mean " peace". there is only few terrorists, and believe it or not, the rest that we see in TV are trained by a secret american office to help the controller of the USA to move the pices of the worlds map to turn all things to their own profits. and to aaaaall people, the 9/11 is a fake, and concerning Ben Laden aaaaaaaall arabic hate him, he was and he still the tool of the USA goverment :-)

you have a bigger chance, that your mom will hack your computer than a Jihad terrorist. But don't worry, the only thing a terrorist can get from your comp is porn sites.
